Personal Best: 10-minutes Double Half Snatch with 2 x 10 kg Bells

Following on from my epic Double Half Snatch (DHS) set the other day with 2 x 8 kg bells, the next milestones in this stage are to move up to 10 kg bells and:

  1. Work up to a 5 minutes unbroken set.
  2. Then a 7 minutes unbroken set.
  3. Finally, a 10 minutes unbroken set.

You keep doing that until you reach your desired goal weight. . For example, as I’m competing in the 12 kg DHS, I’d keep following the same progression until I can do 10 minutes unbroken with 2 x 12 kg bells.

At that point, you can either continue going heavier, i.e. to 14 kg bells and completing 10 minutes unbroken, and then 16 kg bells, etc. Or increase reps within that 10 minutes.

Again, achieving Rank 1 in my event requires 135 reps in 10 minutes, which is 13.5 reps per minute.

Both my 8 kg set the other day and this 10 kg set today were 100 reps in 10 mins, so 10 rpm. Naturally, even if I’d done this with 2 x 12 kg bells this wouldn’t achieve any of the Ranks 1, 2, or 3 (130, 117, and 104 reps, respectively (in my weight category)).

However, I have achieved the next major milestone, and now it’s time to start working with the 12 kg bells.

Those with good memories, will remember that I competed in the 12 kg DHS at the 2nd Kettlebell & Conditioning Asia Championships in April (this was only a 5 minutes set as I injured my back).

2nd KCA Event:

There I achieved 63 reps in 5 minutes, which was a little below the goal I was aiming for, but in all honesty I shouldn’t really have competed. Hey-ho, we are where we are.

Next Steps

Are to slot into the training plan and work on it diligently to 1) build up the strength and endurance needed, and 2) to do my damndest to make sure I get the result I want!

Lunch

Same as yesterday (delicious again!) 😀 Followed by a 15-minutes walk.
