Rest Day (But the Mace was A-Calling…)
Yesterday’s epic (well, to me) session kinda took it out of me…
Not only was I part-asleep yesterday afternoon but I also slept like a log last night.
So much so that, such how my lower back lets me know when I’ve had a solid sleep, this morning any rope flow+ just wasn’t going to happen.
That’s not such a bad thing, of course. The body does, after all, need its rest. But once I’d had lunch and was on my 15 minutes post-lunch walk (exercising immediately after a meal helps reduce the insulin spike by… lots!
In her book Glucose Revolution: The life-changing power of balancing your blood sugar, Jessie Inchauspe writes:
A large 2018 research review looked at 135 people with type 2 diabetes and found that aerobic exercise (walking) after eating decreased their glucose spike by between 3 and 27 per cent.
Not that I’m type 2, but I was pre-diabetic and if you’re trying to shift the timber like me, that in itself is one excellent reason for doing something after a meal.
On the same page, she goes on to say,
Resistance exercise (weight-lifting) has been shown to decrease the glucose spike by up to 30 per cent and the size of further spikes over the following 24 hours by 35 per cent. It’s rare that you’ll be able to curb the entire glucose spike, but you can make a sizeable dent in it.

It’s something I try and do religiously and, on days when I’m feeling it, I’ll incorporate a kettlebell suitcase walk or walking/strict presses, or even carry a Bulgarian Bag.
Today, though, the steel mace was calling and despite it being a mere 35.5 degrees in the shade, I managed to find a spot of shade between my wife’s car and the wall of her classroom.
6 kg mace – 50 x 360s each side (100 reps in total)

Lunch
Lunch today (OMAD) was 250 g striploin steak, 4 boiled eggs in mayo, 1 tbsp butter, and 1/2 avocado.
